Contributing to cultivate more environmentally conscious communities

Veolia employees volunteered to help community gardens become more sustainable.

At Veolia, we strive to make a positive impact on the communities where we operate and reside. Our employee volunteering initiative plays an important role in this effort. This September, team members generously donated their time to enhance community gardens across Ireland.

Last year, the team partook in a range of great volunteering days, and we’ve continued building on this with three recent volunteering days.

Global Action Plan Community, Blanchardstown

On Monday 23 September, we returned to the Global Action Plan Community Gardens in TU Dublin, just around the corner from the Blanchardstown office. Our volunteers were tasked with laying out a new path to help visitors to find their way around the community garden.

Firstly, the area had to be weeded. Then cardboard was cleaned and positioned as a base for the path. Finally, the new path was topped and packed with wood chipping.

It was also great to see the results of the work the team did on their 2023 volunteering day, with loads of growth coming out of the plant beds.

Groundwork Connswater Community Garden, Belfast

On the same day, the team in Northern Ireland was back at Groundwork Connswater Community Garden in Belfast. Volunteers broke up and moved soil to be used in a new wildflower garden, as well as clearing a polytunnel to make way for new raised beds.

Thomastown Community Garden, Kilkenny

Lastly, volunteers from our Kilkenny office went back to the Thomastown Community Garden. The team helped the Community Group prepare the Garden for their annual Culture night.
