Environmental Challenges and Solutions on Business Matters podcast with Declan White

Business Matters, the popular podcast hosted by Karl Fitzpatrick, brings listeners insightful discussions on pressing business and environmental issues. In a recent episode, Karl welcomed Declan White, Veolia's Regional Director, to explore the challenges and opportunities in Ireland's environmental services sector.

Declan discussed the environmental challenges facing business in Ireland and the variety of solutions available. Meeting our carbon reduction targets is challenging. However, these challenges can be met if businesses and communities adopt a long-term mindset with a roadmap to achieve sustainability and decarbonisation.

Declan and Karl also discuss Government policy, which has an important role to play. EU directives and Irish regulations can help to drive higher environmental standards. The government can also help by providing easy access to expertise and funding for businesses.

Karl raised the issue of energy security, which is a potential challenge for Ireland. The Celtic Interconnector with France is an important development as is the growth of renewable energy. Veolia has developed an energy self-sufficient Sludge Hub using Advanced Anaerobic Digestion and helped a Group Water Scheme in Roscommon to power its water treatment plant using Solar power. They reduce carbon emissions and improve energy security.
