A €9.7m investment by Uisce Éireann to upgrade the Clara Water Treatment Plant has been successfully delivered by Veolia. The upgrade has ensured continued delivery of a safe and reliable water supply for homes and businesses in the area. This investment has removed the supply from the EPA’s list of vulnerable water supplies.
This project will benefit over 7,700 customers of Uisce Éireann in Clara, Ferbane and surrounding areas in Co. Offaly.
As part of this project, Veolia’s technical and project delivery teams installed a new flocculation unit, filtration and disinfection upgrades, central controls and automation systems. This included:
- Upgrading the coagulation and flocculation process, including new flocculation tank and chemical dosing upgrades.
- Upgrading the sand filter controls and backwash process.
- Upgrading the disinfection (chlorination) process and final water pH correction.
- Upgrading the used wash water and sludge treatment process.
- Upgrade the monitoring and instrumentation systems.
- Upgrading the plant control, telemetry, and automation.
We are proud of the team effort that led to the successful completion of the works, allowing for the removal of the supply from the EPA’s Remedial Action List (RAL). Uisce Éireann’s €9.7 million investment will help support development, enabling the local community to thrive
With this project now complete, the communities in the Clara and Ferbane can enjoy safe, clean drinking water. Our collaboration with the team in Uisce Éireann was a key part of the successful delivery of this important project.
